Lido Ponty Is Back!

The countdown is well and truly on for the Easter opening of Lido Ponty, the National Lido of Wales. 

The wait is almost over as the Council prepares to launch the new 2016 season at its £6.3m premier outdoor water attraction and adventure park at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd. 

Last month, Council Leader, Cllr Andrew Morgan confirmed it will be FREE to swim at Lido Ponty during 2016 due to its positive impact on the local economy. 

Lido Ponty opens to the public on Good Friday (March 25) until Sunday, April 10. It will then be open fully for the summer season 2016 from Saturday, May 28, until Sunday, September 11. 

Officially opened on August 24 last year, Lido Ponty attracted over 24,000 visitors during its opening season. 

Lido Ponty: A Great Day Out This Easter

Cllr Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Culture, said: “We are delighted to be all set to officially open Lido Ponty for our exciting new season. 

“We have so much to offer, from lane swimming to casual swimming, a splash pool and lots of fun activities for all ages, not forgetting Lido Play, our adventure park for our younger visitors.” 

“A trip to Lido Ponty, the National Lido of Wales, is going to be the perfect way to relax and spend time with the family during the Easter holidays - whatever the weather. 

“We had an amazing opening season and we are looking forward to welcoming thousands of visitors to Pontypridd and Lido Ponty during 2016.” 

A Grade II listed lido, the National Lido of Wales boasts three heated swimming pools (main pool, activity pool and splash pool) offering great opportunities for families, dedicated swimmers, social swimmers and thrill-seekers of all ages and abilities. 

Special features include external and internal showers, heated indoor changing facilities, original wooden outdoor changing cubicles and a state-of-the-art Visitors’ Centre which tells the amazing story of Lido Ponty, which was originally opened in 1927.

Check out the Waterside Café this Easter, the perfect place to relax with a meal, drink or a snack during your family day out.

And take the younger family members along to Lido Play, the childrens’ adventure park which captures the imagination of younger visitors as they explore the swings, slides and tunnels in this locally-themed attraction celebrating our proud industrial past.

Lido Ponty is a result of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s amazing £6.3m restoration project, made possible with financial support from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government, Heritage Lottery Fund and Cadw.

Lido Ponty is set to re-open to the public on Good Friday (March 25) until Sunday, April 10. It will then be open fully for the summer season 2016 from Saturday, May 28, until Sunday, September 11. 

Please note: There will be a charge for water activities that will include a mixture of fun inflatables, along with either hand boats, jet bikes or zorbing rollers.
