The Rural Development Plan for Wales is part of a European & Welsh Government Programme which aims to promote community development, improve competitiveness in the agriculture and forestry sector and safeguard and enhance the rural environment.

There are a number of elements to the Rural Programme including a community led programme called “The Rural Action Cwm Taf LEADER Programme”. Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council administers the programme which covers specific areas in Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taf.

The Rural Cwm Taf Local Action Group will ensure the programme delivers projects identified as being most needed within rural communities under certain Welsh Government specified themes.

We are currently inviting expressions of interest for the Rural Development LEADER fund.  Funds are available for community projects in the following electoral divisions across Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taf.

  • Maerdy
  • Rhigos
  • Ynysybwl
  • Bedlinog
  • Cyfarthfa
  • Merthyr Vale
  • Plymouth
  • Treharris
  • Vaynor

We can only fund revenue costs (the maximum amount you can receive is £60,000) and you must find at least 20% match funding to contribute to the project.  Please note that we cannot support existing projects.  This fund is for project ideas which have not been tried in our area before.

Expressions of Interest must be received by 5pm Monday 13th March.

Should you wish to receive further information, if you would like the application pack or if you would just like a chat to see whether your project is eligible for support please contact the co-ordinator  01685 727089.
