Bookings are now being accepted for the Council’s Christmas Tree Collection Service – and more than 100 people have already secured their collection.
‘Tis the Season to Recycle, and residents were able to start booking their real Christmas Trees in for recycling from December 12 – for the collection period of January 2 to January 12. After this period, real Christmas Trees will be picked up by the Council’s normal green waste service.
Bookings can be completed online at www.rctcbc.gov.uk/ChristmasRecycling or by calling 01443 424001. As of December 21, a total of 107 households had reserved their collection slot for the New Year.
Councillor Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure, said: “The Council’s Christmas Tree Collection Service is now underway, and it’s the perfect way to dispose of real trees in the New Year – while ensuring they are recycled. Bookings are easy to complete online or by phone, ahead of collections starting from January 2.
“Christmas is the perfect time of year to recycle, and real Christmas Trees are just one of the popular items we use over the festive period which can be re-used – from dinner leftovers to wrapping paper, batteries and toys.
“Recycling is currently at an all-time high in Rhondda Cynon Taf, as figures released earlier this year showed that 64% of overall waste was recycled in 2016. That is above the Welsh average (63%) and the Welsh Government’s current target (58%), which will rise to 70% by 2024-25.
“Recycling over Christmas, including booking your real trees in for recycling during the New Year, will ensure we end 2017 on a high, giving us positive momentum to recycle even more during 2018.”
Tree collections will be on the same day as revised recycling days, and trees must be left at residents’ recycling collection point. Artificial trees will not be collected in this service, and must be taken to one of the Council’s Community Recycling Centres, or included in bulky waste bookings.
