Final resurfacing work for the new pedestrian crossing in Llanharan

Llanharan - Copy

UPDATED, 23/11/23: please note, the alternative route for the road closure has been amended in the article below.

There will be a road closure this Sunday in Llanharan for resurfacing work related to the new pedestrian crossing being installed near the community shop. This will be the final element of work associated with the scheme.

In recent weeks, the Council has progressed work to install a new signalised pedestrian crossing at this location, following requests from the community and Elected Members to improve pedestrian safety. It follows the replacement of the nearby railway footbridge – and has included highway drainage and resurfacing works that could not be completed during the footbridge scheme.

All work to install the new crossing is being completed this week, and will be followed by the final resurfacing at A473 Bridgend Road (between the railway bridge and Hillside Avenue) from 7am to 10pm on Sunday, November 26 subject to weather conditions.

An alternative route for motorists will be signposted via A473 Bridgend Road, A473 New Road, Brynna Road, Southall Street, Brynna Road and Hillside Avenue.

During the works, access cannot be maintained for emergency service vehicles, but will be maintained for pedestrians. Cyclists should dismount and walk the pedestrian route. Access will be maintained to all local premises.

A shuttle bus will also be in operation on Sunday to mitigate disruption to the Stagecoach Service 404 (Pontypridd to Bridgend). The shuttle bus will be operated by Bella Road and will run between the Llanharan War Memorial and Bryncae Film Studios. A full timetable can be found here.

The opportunity is also being taken to resurface a 30-metre section of Chapel Road, which is in a poor condition. The entrance to Chapel Road (from Bridgend Road) will be closed due to the work, and the street’s one-way system will be temporarily revoked to maintain access for residents.

The Council would like to thank residents and road users for their cooperation as the final work to install the new pedestrian crossing is completed.
