The Council are now using kennels located in Llanharan (see site map below) which are operated by Hope Rescue. The Council continues to employ Animal Wardens and as previous, you can contact the Council’s Call Centre on 01443 425001 to report lost or stray dogs for collection. There are arrangements to cover emergency situations when dogs are reported lost or straying outside normal working hours (17:01-8.59 and all through Saturday & Sunday & Bank Holidays) and these are detailed below.

Kennels

You may also want to share details of a missing or found dog on community services such as Lost and Found RCT, which are run by volunteers via social media and receive lots of reports of lost, found and sighted dogs.

Please note the Council does not respond to lost or stray cats.

Stray Dogs

The first time a dog is caught straying, the Animal Wardens will try to trace the owners and return it. On finding the dog is micro-chipped, but it contains incorrect ownership details, the dog will be detained at Hope Rescue kennels in Llanharan and the appropriate fee charged if the dog is reclaimed. If the dog found is not micro-chipped, an additional cost will be added to cover the cost of micro-chipping. Any other stray will be kept safely for up to seven days at Hope Rescue kennels or returned in line with the appropriate kennelling charge below. After seven days, the Council’s responsibility for the dog will cease and Hope Rescue will seek to re-home the dog, if possible.

The kennels are open:

  • Monday- Friday: 9.00am to 5pm
  • Arrangements for collection of dogs outside normal working hours are detailed below.

Dogs will only be returned to their owners after payment for kennel charges. If you want to check if your dog has been detained at the kennels, you can contact Hope Rescue directly on 01443 226659.
