df consultation

Dog fouling across Rhondda Cynon Taf is a major problem and the Council is looking to clampdown on irresponsible dog owners.

One of the options being considered is the introduction of a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), which, if adopted, would provide a range of powers to tackle dog fouling and irresponsible dog ownership.

Residents are urged to get involved in consultation on the plans, which runs from Friday 17 February and ends at 5pm on Friday 17th March.

We are committed to working with residents to deal with this issue

Every year dirty dog owners, litter louts and fly-tippers cost the Council over £1m and officers spend thousands of staff hours cleaning up the mess they leave behind.

Did you know?

The cost to clean up a single instance of dog mess costs the Council around £170.

Currently, those caught allowing their dogs to foul in a public place face a £75 Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN), under the new proposed measures this could increase to £100

The consultation is also seeking residents view on the following:

  • The prohibition of dog fouling in all public places,
  • A requirement that dogs are kept on leads in play grounds & cemeteries owned/maintained by the Council,
  • A requirement to carry bags, or other suitable means, for the disposal of dog faeces,
  • A requirement allowing authorised officers to give a direction that a dog be put and kept on a lead if necessary and,
  • A prohibition excluding dogs from all schools and marked sports pitches owned/maintained by the Council.
