Swimming Clubs

On completion of wave 7 our swimmers will have the opportunity to join one of our 4 swimming clubs who train in RCT pools:

RCT Performance Swim Squad

RCT Performance Swim Squad trains in Llantrisant, Tonyrefail and Rhondda Leisure centres, Bronwydd pool, Lido Pontypridd and Beddau school pool. Striving for excellence within a friendly environment we provide performance level swimming coaching for swimmers across the whole of Rhondda Cynon Taf.

The club concentrates on long term athlete development, by working on basic excellent swimming technique in our skills programme which caters for swimmers from wave 6 and 7 swimming lessons helping each individual swimmer maximize their own potential.

Once strong techniques are in place swimmers can then progress into our performance pathway.

Training up to eighteen hours a week including a land training programme they develop into strong competitors aiming for places on Welsh and British squads whilst still maintaining a love of the sport.

The Club sees swimming as a lifelong activity providing transferable skills including team working, handling success and failure and encouraging a great work ethic as swimmers strive to achieve their own personal goals within a supportive team environment. Swimmers are also encouraged to become aquatic teachers, coaches, officials, life guards and to volunteer with the club.

Trials are free and held on a regular basis.

Rhondda Swimming Club

Rhondda Swimming Club was formed in 1975 with the opening of Rhondda Sports Centre, which continues to be our main club base. We are the Rhondda’s number one competitive swimming club with some 150 swimming members and over 40 volunteers, training across 5 pools in Ystrad, Maerdy, Porth, Pony Lido and Cardiff International Pool.

We welcome swimmers of all abilities from junior ‘learn to swim’ children aged 4+, and through classes follow the different stages of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming. Competitive swimmers are organised into training squads and our fully qualified coaches support swimmers to compete in Local, Regional and National competitions.

Potential new members and aspiring athletes are warmly invited to enquire about joining.

Pontypridd Swimming Club strives to be a vibrant community-focused swimming club that provides a safe and enjoyable environment for swimmers of all ages to fulfil their potential. It aims to be a continually improving developmental swimming club offering high standards of coaching to provide a value for money service to club members.

The club was founded in 1928 at Pontypridd Lido and is the oldest club in RCT. Affiliated to Swim Wales, swimmers are helped along their swimmer journey by a team of enthusiastic coaches supported by volunteers. Based primarily at Abercynon Sport Centre and Hawthorn pools, the swimmer pathway runs from an Entry group (Wave 6/7) to performance standard in a Squad group. The club participates in galas as well as promoting active wellbeing through swimming and ‘aquatics for all for life’. Swimmers are also supported to become swim teachers, coaches, officials and lifeguards.
