Choose which Welsh legend you want to explore in Rhondda Cynon Taf, the hidden treasure of a county borough that has made a massive mark on the world.
At one time, our Valleys were among the most intensely mined in the world. The search for "Black Gold" in our hillsides sparked the industrial revolution. Coal from Rhondda Cynon Taf was transported south through wales via train and canal boat, generating an industrial fervour and the creation of busy Cardiff city, its former docks and Bay.
Find out more about the international story that unfolded right here in the Welsh Valleys at Rhondda Heritage Park, the Museum of Welsh Mining, which brings the search for Black Gold back to life, through the experiences of the miners who once worked in the pits, interactive exhibitions and more.
They say you aren't a true Welsh legend until you have been immortalised as a Grogg. These unique sculptures are hand-made on site at the Grogg shop in Treforest, which is well worth a visit. Among the most popular Groggs are those of our own home-grown talents including Sir Tom Jones, Neil Jenkins, Tommy David, Garin Jenkins, Stuart Burrows and more.
Our dramatic mountain tops, open spaces and rugged landscapes are packed with legends - from King Arthur and ghosts to dinosaurs, captured Kings, eccentrics, bards and more.
You can explore our myths and legends via walking and cycling trails, audio trails you can download to your phone or follow with a leaflet and driving trails.
