Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council is committed to encouraging innovation and supporting existing companies that want to grow, as well as helping those planning to move to the area.

The Council offers a business support package to help you realise your full potential.  Whether you have an idea for a business start-up, wish to expand an existing business in the area, improve your efficiency or introduce some new technology, there could be support for you.

The Council is able to offer grants when funding allows, however, these schemes are discretionary and may have restricted eligibility. Below outlines the grants that are offered by the Council.

Local Investment Fund

Aim: The project has been developed  with support from the Welsh Government through the European Regional Development Fund, under the Convergence Programme.

LIF provides financial support to help eligible local businesses realise their ambitions to develop and grow by supporting investment in Capital projects.

Who can apply: The LIF fund is specifically designed to support a range of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). The grant is aimed primarily  at the manufacturing sector and associated services. Retail is not eligible, but other  sectors can be considered.

Applicants will need to demonstrate that a significant proportion of their activity is business to business and that they have the ability to 'add value' or offer net benefits to the local economy ( through job creation).

What can it fund: Eligible capital projects could include:

  • Capital Equipment
  • ICT Equipment
  • Development of websites
  • Marketing materials
  • External and internal building works and alterations

    N.B. Expenditure incurred before grant approval is not eligible  for funding.

    How much: Grants upto £5,000 are available, based on 40% of the eligible project costs.
