Primary School library visit The Schools Library Service offers a loan and advisory service to all primary schools within Rhondda Cynon Taf. Find details of all our services here.

The SLS Resource Centre is not just about books! We have over 60,000 items in stock, including book cassettes, videos and a specialist local history collection. We have materials on a wide range of subjects, including stories and novels set in Wales, for a wide range of ages, to meet all your National Curriculum needs.

Block Loans are a collection of books loaned for one year to supplement your school library.

Costs are as follows:

  • 1 or 2 books per pupil = £1 per book
  • 3 or more books per pupil = 80p per book

Subscribing to a Block Loan entitles you to borrow all other collections at a lower price.

Project Loans are collections of books and other materials (max. 30 items) loaned for a term on a topic (or topics) chosen by you.

Costs are as follows:

  • Per Pack = £25 (£20 for Block Loan users)

Author Packs are collections of books and other materials (max 12 items) by and about well-known authors and illustrators. You can choose from authors such as Roald Dahl, Dick King-Smith, Quentin Blake, Shirley Hughes, Beatrix Potter, Jacqueline Wilson and Anne Fine.

Costs are as follows:

  • Per Pack = £20 (£15 for Block Loan users)

Big Books take two forms – Fab Four and Little & Large .

  • Fab Four are packs with four different titles chosen by you from our Big Book Catalogue, loaned for a term.
  • Little & Large are packs with 1 Big Book and 6 small copies of the same title, loaned for a term.

Costs are as follows:

  • Per Pack = £20 (£15 for Block Loan users)

Catch Up Resources are available in different size packs, so you decide how many books you want. For a full list of Catch Up titles contact us at the address below.

DVDs and Videos can be borrowed as part of a project or author collection or on their own for £1 per week. We have a wide selection of curriculum and non-curriculum titles for Early Years, Key stage 1 and 2. Contact us for a full list of DVDs, videos and BBC Video Plus Packs.

Advisory Service – Advice on setting up & maintaining a school library; library skills and talks to promote books and reading – are all FREE!
