The Council is currently undertaking consultation on the following proposals:
New Secondary School for Aberdare
Further consultation on this proposal is being undertaken, in addition to that undertaken last Autumn Term.
This proposal, outlined was to close Aberdare Girls’ School, Aberdare High School, and Blaengwawr Comprehensive School and create a new secondary school for Aberdare. The proposal also sought to transfer the existing Speech and Language Communication Disorder special educational needs provision based at Blaengwawr Comprehensive School to the new secondary school.
As a result of this feedback from governors, parents, pupils and school staff we have amended the proposal and are seeking your views on the following:
It is proposed to:
-
Close Aberdare Girls’ Comprehensive School, with the pupils transferring to a new secondary school for Aberdare in September 2014.
-
Close Aberdare High School, with pupils transferring to a new secondary school for Aberdare in September 2014.

-
There will be no interim solution as previously proposed. The three Aberdare secondary schools proposed for closure will continue to operate as three schools until the new school is built.
-

New Welsh Medium Primary Education provision at Llanhari
Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council is proposing to make a prescribed alteration to the Instrument of Government of Ysgol Gyfun Llanhari, to amend the age range of pupils it can admit, from 11 to 18 years, to 3 to 18 years. This will enable the admission of pupils of Primary school age, and increase the amount of school places available for children of this age range, whose parents request Welsh Medium education, in an area of the County Borough where demand for such places is currently exceeding supply.
Full details of our proposal can be viewed via our consultation document linked below, and any comments you may wish to make on this particular proposal should be received, at the address detailed below, no later than 16 August 2011.
