5X60 Sport Initiative

SFYP logo5x60 is a national sport initiative unique to Wales. 5x60 is changing the face of school sport providing opportunities for young people to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

The core aim of the 5x60 initiative is to see 90% of young people taking part in regular physical activity, thus achieving 5 x 60 minutes of sport or physical activity a week.

Within Rhondda Cynon Taf there are currently twelve 5x60 Officers working in clusters and 1 special school across the borough. The 5x60 initiative is a part of Services for Young People (SFYP) and works collaboratively with the e3+ programme. The 5x60 Officer’s role is to facilitate an extra curricular programme with an aim to encourage those who do not take part in sport or physical activity to become active. This is achieved through consultation with young people to find out what activities they want to take part in, the time of activities and the day in which the activity will be delivered. Through consultation a host of exciting activities are organised each term and can take place before school, at lunch time, after school and at the weekends, all of which contribute to the e3+ programme.

SFYP-arrowsActivities currently offered include;
