EVERY CHILD. EVERY DAY.
ABOUT US
Rhondda Cynon Taf's Attendance and Wellbeing Service (AWS) is committed to raising achievement for our young people and to do so we work closely with parents, schools and other services to help resolve any difficulties that affects children's education.
LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY
-
The AWS is the enforcement agency within the Local Authority with the responsibility to undertake, if deemed appropriate, court action for persistent school absence.
-
The prime responsibility for ensuring school attendance lies with the parents/carers. It is the duty of the Local Authority to ensure that parents and schools carry out their responsibilities and this duty is developed into the AWS.
WHO DO WE SUPPORT?
The AWS provides support to schools, pupils and parents to ensure regular attendance and address problems relating to absenteeism. The Attendance and Wellbeing Officers (AWO) work alongside other agencies and provide an important link between home and school helping parents and teachers to work in partnership so that pupils can benefit from the educational opportunities available locally.
THE MAIN ROLE OF THE AWS IS TO:
-
Contribute to the Local Authority and Schools drive for school effectiveness
-
Work in partnership with Schools, Pupils, Parents and Communities to ensure educational entitlement and regular attendance
-
Link with a network of agencies providing education, health and social services for individuals with specific needs
