School 14 - 19 Area Prospectus

The RCT 14-19 network are working together with the Economic Development Team to develop work placements and career progression routes in the priority areas of:

  • Services to people
  • Care
  • Built Environment
  • Catering
  • Hair and Beauty
  • Vocational Science
  • Business Enterprise
  • Creative and Cultural Industries

A strategic partnership has developed with Coleg Y Cymoedd and all 19 secondary schools work together to provide a variety of post 16 education

The consortia arrangements are as follows and some options in the sixth form involve students travelling between schools and transport costs are contributed to by RCT 14-19 network. Further info is available in the school transport section.

We are also in the process of setting up a Special School consortium consisting of Ysgol Hen Felin, Ysgol Ty Coch, Maesgwyn and Park Lane Special Schools.

Since 2005 the RCT 14-19 network have developed a number of vocational satellite centres across RCT which 14-19 year olds now benefit from these include:

  • Hairdressing salons at Coleg Y Cymoedd, Aberdare campus, Hawthorn and YG Llanhari
  • Construction facilities in Ferndale, Bryncelynnog, Mountain Ash and Tonyrefail
  • Business EGNI facilities at Coleg Y Cymoedd, YG Llanhari and Mountain Ash
  • Video conferencing facilities
  • Virtual Learning environments in Taff Ely and BYP consortia
  • PDA pilot

There are an increasing number of vocational courses offered in the schools and the college and the RCT 14-19 network works closely with several work based learning providers including:

  • EBP
  • Acorn
  • Springboard
