We have a number of local Angling clubs who own lakes and parts of the rivers in the Borough. You will need a rod licence* plus a permit or permission from land owners or clubs to fish.
Glyncornel Angling Association
The Glyncornel Angling Association serves the Glyncornel Lake in Tonypandy and also River Rhondda. Sat Nav CF40 2JF

Glyncornel Lake is situated at the top end of Tonypandy in Rhondda's only nature reserve the lake is opposite Llwynypia Railway Station. Glyncornel Lake is regularly stocked with Rainbow trout & brown trout. Fly fishing only. The lake is open from the 20th March until 17th October. The river is open from 3rd March until last day of September.
Full membership only for Glyncornel Lake, no day permits available. Season membership only. River Rhondda season membership only. Adults and Junior season permits available.
Mountain Ash Fly Fishers Association
The Mountain Ash Fly Fishing Association formed in 1958 and has a very active membership with regular competitions. Their aim is to promote fly fishing for all.
The Association fishes on Penderyn Reservoir near Hirwaun, and Ystradfellte Reservoir in the Brecon Beacons. The record fish on Penderyn Reservoir is 9lb 2oz. The Association’s waters have a limit of 2 fish per day and 6 per week.

Aberdare and District Angling Association
Aberdare and District Angling Association are based in the Aberdare area of the Cynon Valley in South Wales. The Aberdare & District Angling Association are a small association, run by a dedicated number of dedicated number of elected committee members, whose aim is to provide quality fishing at reasonable cost for people within the Cynon Valley.
The Association has one main reservoir, Nant Moel (12 acres fly only 2 boats available) and large stretches of eth River Cynon (Fly, Spin, Worm) from Penderyn to Abercynon.
The association waters are stocked throughout the season with rainbow trout mainly reared locally. Max of 2 fish per day. Catch and release is allowed with debarbed hooks.
Nant Moel Reservoir - 1st March - 31st January.
Cynon River - 1st March - 1st October.
Maerdy & Ferndale Angling Club
The Maerdy & Ferndale Angling Club have been running since 1934, and are based in the Rhondda Fach Valley. The club is active, with regular competitions being held.
The Club holds rights to fish the Rhondda Fach River from Maerdy down as far as Porth, where the Rhondda Fach meets the Rhondda Fawr. They also control the Castell Nos and Lluest Wen Reservoirs to the north of Maerdy.
Brown and rainbow trout available.
Reservoirs - 3rd March - 30th November.
Rivers - 3rd March - 30th September.
Adult and junior season tickets are available for river only or for reservoirs as well. Day tickets are also available.

Upper Rhondda Angling Club
The Upper Rhondda Angling Club was founded in 1957 and is based at the head of the Rhondda Fawr Valley near Treorchy and Treherbert. The Club meet on the first Wednesday every month at 8pm at eth Conservative Club in Treherbert.
Upper Rhondda Angling Club have fishing rights on the Rhondda Fawr from Blaenrhondda as far as the Stag pub in Treorchy. The club also control the rights to fish the Llyn Fawr reservoir by the Rhigos.
The Club stock their waters regularly with approximately 7000 fish per year. Rainbow trout can be found at Llyn Fawr, and brown and rainbow trout in the Rhondda. Each water has a fish limit of 4 rainbow trout. All brown trout must be returned.
Day permits are available from New Road Garage in Treherbert, or S&K Fishing & leisure in Aberdare. Season tickets and membership are also available.

Rhondda Fawr - 3rd March - 30th September.

Fynnon Taff Angling Association
The Foundation of the club still apply today as a friendly and relaxed fishing club who’s members pursuit of fishing is an enjoyable one. The club is very conservation minded and urge all members and guests to uphold these values. Since 1994 the club has grown from just a few to over 90 members. The club is open to all people to apply and we encourage juniors and seniors alike. Whether fishing for coarse or game all members shall abide to the Environmental Agency rules.
