Parental support – Information and advice

Parental-support“Being a parent will probably be the most rewarding job you’ll ever do - and the greatest challenge” There's no one right way to parent and no super-parent out there with all the answers.

Always look for your child's good behaviour and praise it.

Our Bringing Up Children groups are free and informal group sessions designed to promote your child’s development, promote good communication and strengthen parenting skills as well as giving you the chance to meet other parents and to make new friends. Below you will find details on the different groups available from the Flying Start Parenting Team.

What’s it all about?
We offer fun and informal group sessions for parents/carers with babies or children under 4 years old.

Incredible Baby– For babies up to 12 months of age

The Baby programme covers various aspects of your child and their progression form birth to 12 months of age.

When attending groups you will get the chance to discuss and share thoughts on being a parent and learn about key areas of your child’s progression. Some of the areas you will expect to cover will be; how to set up bed time routines, learning how to sing and play with your baby, dealing with babies crying and fussy periods, how to introduce solid foods, plus much much more.

Free crèche and snacks provided.

Incredible Toddler– For children aged 12 months to 3 years old

Following on from the Baby programme is the Incredible Toddler. Again this will involve attending informal group sessions where you will cover different aspects of your toddler’s development and discuss the highs and lows of parenthood! There are lots of topics you will cover in the sessions such as; understanding toddler developmental landmarks, getting ready for pre-school, increasing positive behaviour, the importance of teaching children to share and take turns, how to handle children who hit or bite plus lots more.

Free crèche and light lunch provided.

The Parenting Puzzle

This nurturing programme is a tried and tested course that helps anyone involved in bringing up children to think about, what we do? Why we do it? and how we feel about it? The programme helps parents understand and manage feelings and behaviour whilst becoming more positive and nurturing in their relationships with their children and each other. We will cover general topics such as; praise, family rules, the question of discipline along with looking at personal power, self esteem and self awareness. This programme is available to parents/carers with children aged 12 months – 3 years.

Free crèche and light lunch provided.

Coping with Young Children.

The Coping with Young Children group provides one to one and / or group support to help manage difficult behaviour in children aged 0 - 3 years and above. To find out more on this group you will need to contact your local Health Visitor who will then be able to put you in contact with the team.

Free crèche and light lunch provided.
