Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council is committed to encouraging innovation and supporting existing companies that want to grow, as well as helping those planning to move to the area.
The Council offers a business support package to help you realise your full potential. Whether you have an idea for a business start-up, wish to expand an existing business in the area, improve your efficiency or introduce some new technology, there could be support for you.
The Council is able to offer grants when funding allows, however, these schemes are discretionary and may have restricted eligibility. Below outlines the grants that are offered by the Council.
Aim:The Business Support Grant is a flexible grant scheme aimed at new and existing small to medium sized businesses to develop their growth potential. The grant can provide financial support to assist with the purchase of equipment, development of marketing materials and improve commercial premises.
Who can apply:Consumer facing businesses which are based within the Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough.
Applicants will need to demonstrate that they have an ability to 'add value' or offer net benefits to the local economy (through job creation, evidence of job creation will be required within 3 months of grant payment).
What can it fund:Eligible capital projects which could include:
Development of websites
Design and production of one off marketing materials
External and internal building works and alterations (Commercial Properties Only)
N.B. Expenditure incurred before grant approval is not eligible for funding.
Start up Business (trading under 12 months)
Grants are available from £500 up to £1,500, based on 50% of the eligible project costs. For businesses based in commercial premises grants are available from £500 up to £3,000, based on 50% of the eligible project costs.
Grants are available from £500 up to £1,500, based on 40% of the eligible project costs. For businesses based in commercial premises grants are available from £500 up to £3,000, based on 40% of the eligible project costs.

Aim:The project has been developed with support from the Welsh Government through the European Regional Development Fund, under the Convergence Programme.
LIF provides financial support to help eligible local businesses realise their ambitions to develop and grow by supporting investment in capital projects.
Who can apply:The LIF fund is specifically designed to support a range of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Funding is aimed primarily at the manufacturing sector and associated services. Retail is not eligible, but other sectors can be considered.
Applicants will need to demonstrate that a significant proportion of their activity is business to business and that they have the ability to 'add value' or offer net benefits to the local economy (through job creation).
What can it fund:Eligible capital projects could include:
Development of websites
Non-recurring marketing materials
External and internal building works and alterations.

Aim:The aim of the programme is to create ‘super-connected cities’ across the UK, delivering high-speed, high-quality, seamless broadband to businesses by 2015.
Who can apply: The Cardiff Connection Voucher Scheme is open to Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs), Social Enterprises, Community Interest Companies, Charities, Small Office Home Office (SOHO's) or Sole Traders. And who are based at a business premises or residential address in Rhondda Cynon Taf that is located within five miles of the Cardiff city border.

What can it fund: Applicants can apply for funding for the capital costs of installing a new broadband connection directly to a premise in order to access high speed connectivity and capability. The scheme supports:
One Voucher per Organisation
Business or residential address
100% of capital installation costs
Vouchers from £100 to £3,000
Minimum speeds of 30Mbps on a shared line or 20Mbps on a dedicated service
Monthly service charges are excluded from the grant
