Sewta Regional Transport Plan
The ten local authorities of the Sewta have developed a Regional Transport Plan (RTP), which sets out their policies and proposals to improve the transport system of the region over the coming years.
Working together with industry partners, and the Welsh Government (WG), the aim of this first RTP is to improve regional transport in South East Wales and help deliver the social, economic and environmental objectives of the Wales Spatial Plan and the Wales Transport Strategy. The plan seeks to help the move towards a more sustainable environment for work, the economy and personal and recreational travel.
The main proposals include:
Continuing investment in the regional rail network
Improving the quality of the bus service
Developing public transport integration
Making better use of the road system
Developing a smarter choices programme (including walking and cycling)
The plan contains a five-year programme of works and also sets out longer term proposals needed to achieve the plan’s aims. The plan has now been approved by WG and is available on the Sewta website.
Sewta have developed a number of strategies and commissioned research on a number of issues that advised the development of the plan. These are also contained on the Sewta website.
Now that the RTP has been approved, Sewta will be working closely with its partner local authorities and WG to deliver its programme of transport schemes over the coming years.
