Local Housing Allowance is a new way of working out new claims for Housing Benefit for tenants renting accommodation from a private landlord. It also affects tenants already getting Housing Benefit who move into accommodation rented from a private landlord. Local Housing Allowance was introduced on 7 April 2008. If you live in council accommodation or other social housing, Local Housing Allowance will not affect you.
Please note that from April 2012 Local Housing Allowance rates will be frozen for one year, from April 2013 the rates will then be set annually. You will move onto the rate set from April 2012 on your LHA anniversary date or earlier if you:
-
Already get Local Housing Allowance and move into another privately rented property
-
Your household changes, such as someone leaves or comes to live with you
-
Qualify for an additional room for a carer
-
Make a new claim for Local Housing Allowance
The table below shows the Local Housing Allowance rates (weekly amounts) for Rhondda Cynon Taf Broad Rental Market Areas. Please note that the Broad Rental Market Areas have changed from 1st February 2010.
