The Arts Development team of experienced and enthusiastic officers creates and increases opportunities in the arts and the creative industries for all those living, working and studying in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
We currently focus on three specific areas:
Learning and Inclusion – advising on, supporting and developing arts and cultural opportunities that provide a life-enriching experience through the arts for people of all ages and abilities, and young people in particular. These participatory arts activities are delivered throughout the communities of RCT and range from lunchtime concerts for older adults in our theatres, to sessions led by local professional artists working within community-focused schools.
Youth Arts and SONIG Youth Music Industry programmes (funded by Fframwaith, RCT’s Children and Young People’s Partnership) which consist of supporting and developing an exciting, varied and challenging range of arts and cultural opportunities for young people aged eight–25 years.
These experiences offered during the daytime, evening, weekend, term-time and holidays range from breakdancing to creative writing sessions to specific mentoring for young music promoters.
Arts & Regeneration – working closely with Regeneration and Planning officers to enhance and regenerate the county borough through the arts and creative industries. Projects include commissioning public art works to adding cultural value to town centres through supporting artists to engage traders and shoppers and developing the creative aspect of parades and carnivals.
To deliver all of the above we work closely with other Council Services, local and regional professional visual and performing artists, voluntary organisations and colleagues within local authority Arts Services across the region. By doing so we ensure that we create accessible and inclusive opportunities for you to directly take part in and/or enjoy (as audience/spectator) wide ranging and stimulating arts activities throughout Rhondda Cynon Taf.
