Leader's Annual Report 2010

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Leader, Councillor Russell Roberts, has published his annual report for 2010.

Councillor Roberts’ report outlines the progress made by the Council in the last year in several key areas as well as presenting some of the challenges it faces in the near future.

The concept of an annual report from the Leader of the Council was first introduced last year and this year’s version is a further step forward in the action the Council is continually taking to be more open and accessible to the people it serves.

Council Leader, Councillor Russell Roberts, said:

"As Leader of the Council, I believe it is important to set out the current position of the Council and how we are working to improve the lives of the residents we serve.

"That is why last year I initiated the idea of a Leader’s Annual Report and I hope that residents enjoy reading this second edition.

"We continue to manage the Council’s finances responsibly and remained within budget in 2009/10. This is no mean feat as at the same time we have continued to invest in and improve our services and infrastructure.

"Public services face some of the biggest challenges in a generation, with the stark reality of reductions in public funding becoming ever clearer and we will be forced into making some difficult decisions although we will do so as sympathetically as possible.

"I hope residents will see from my report and the evidence that they find all around them that Rhondda Cynon Taf continues to make excellent strides.

"We know the coming months and years will severely test us as a Council but I believe that we are as well placed as we could possibly be to meet the challenges we face with principles and purpose."

The Leader’s Annual Report will be debated by Full Council on 29th September 2010 in the annual ‘State of the County Borough’ debate and can be downloaded from the Council’s website. This will include a facility for members of the public to ask questions to Councillor Roberts, which they have tabled in advance. It will also shortly be available in a range of Council locations such as libraries, leisure centres, One4All centres and day centres.

The Leader’s Annual Report is structured around the five themes of the new Community Strategy 2010-2020, which sets out the plans and ambitions that all public sector organisations in Rhondda Cynon Taf have for the County Borough and aim to achieve through working together. These five themes are:

• Safer Communities
• Children and Young People
• Healthier Adults and Communities
• Economic Regeneration and Transport
• Environment and Housing
