A new information site is being launched in Aberdare for residents and visitors to the county borough to learn more about the massive £7.7million Regeneration Scheme being developed in the town centre.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and its contractors Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd are establishing a stand in Aberdare Market. The stand will be situated at the doorway leading into the modern extension of the market.
From February 29th between 12noon and 4pm, the stand will be manned every Wednesday. The public can come along to view the development of the project and learn more about the scheme from those officers who are responsible for its completion.
From 12noon to 2pm every Wednesday there will also be the opportunity for local traders to learn more about the Townscape Enhancement Programme and Townscape Heritage Initiative, which provide the opportunity for commercial property owners in the town to take advantage of a the funding scheme with a contribution towards property enhancements potentially available.
From 2pm to 4pm contractors Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd will also be available to discuss the development of the scheme which includes the introduction of new high-quality paving, road resurfacing, street furniture along with the development of key areas throughout the town centre.
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Safer Communities Cllr Paul Cannon said: “The opening of a special manned site in Aberdare Market is imperative in a scheme of such proportions as this. The Aberdare Town Centre Regeneration Project is already proving a major success and the steady transformation is visible for all to see.
”In the year ahead residents, traders and visitors alike will undoubtedly want to know more about the development of the project and how we strive to minimise any impact of our work on the day-to-day running of the town centre.
“Visitors will be able to view for themselves the extent of these exciting plans,. With officers from Alun Griffiths Ltd on hand to answer their queries, the weekly opening of the stand will undoubtedly prove a popular opportunity to find out more about the biggest regeneration scheme ever carried out in Aberdare.”
Funding for the Aberdare Regeneration Scheme has come from the Welsh Assembly Government through the European Regional Development Fund, Heads of the Valleys programme and Targeted Match Funding, plus the Councils own financial resources, the Heritage Lottery Fund, Cadw and private sector contributions.
