Keen readers across Rhondda Cynon Taf can now download ‘ebooks’ for free from their local libraries.

Ebooks are electronic books which can be read digitally on a computer or laptop. Hundreds of titles are now available for loan to library members in Rhondda Cynon Taf, and can be downloaded onto a PC or laptop at home. Anyone who lives or works in the county borough and who has a valid library card and pin number can use the new service.

Ebooks can be loaned for up to three weeks and at the end of this period, the book will be automatically wiped from the computer and the borrower can download the book again. Each borrower can have up to four items either on loan or reserved at one time.

The ebook service can be used with devices such as iPads, but is not compatible with the Kindle. Go to https://wales.libraryebooks.co.uk/site/EB/ebooks/| to log on with your borrower number and pin. You can also use the information links before deciding to use the service.

Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Cllr Robert Bevan, said: "Ebooks are steadily growing in popularity as a new way to access reading material, so I am pleased that our libraries are now able to offer this service."

Rhondda Cynon Taf Library Service is one of 13 across Wales taking part in the ebooks pilot project, funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.

* Membership of all Rhondda Cynon Taf’s libraries is free and everyone living or working within the county borough is welcome to join. Find out more by visiting Rhondda Cynon Taf Libraries|
