Work on the new Sainsbury’s store which is currently being built on the Brown Lenox site in Pontypridd is now underway and in line for completion in July 2012.
The scheme will bring a capital investment of £50 million to Pontypridd, contributing to the town’s regeneration and creating between 300-350 full and part time jobs, a store selling a wide range of quality food products including fresh food counters, a café and also a Sainsbury’s TU clothing range, a six-pump petrol station, recycling facilities and cash points, car parking for approximately 460 cars including parent and child and disabled bays, a new access road from the A470 roundabout directly into the site and an enhanced pedestrian and bus links to the town.
In order for this exciting project to take place successfully there will need to be a series of road closures which may cause some minor disruption for motorists travelling in and around Pontypridd town centre.
The latest road closures will be updated frequently and can be found below:
The following roads are scheduled to be closed from 8 pm to 6 am the following day as per details below to enable highway improvements associated with the Sainsbury’s Development.
-
Monday 5th March 2012 – Wednesday 7th March 2012 – East bound lane on A4058 cross valley link from Broadway to A470 cross valley interchange roundabout (Sainsbury’s roundabout) including the south and northbound A470 link roads between the roundabout at the A470 cross valley link interchange and Bridge Street, Pontypridd.
-
Thursday 8th March 2012 – Westbound lane of the A4058 cross valley link road from its junction with the roundabout at the A470 cross valley interchange to Broadway junction as well as the southbound A470 link road between Bridge Street and the roundabout at the A470 cross valley interchange, Pontypridd.
-
Friday 9th March 2012 – The A470 (North) exit slip road from the A470 to its junction with the roundabout at the A470 cross valley interchange, Pontypridd.
In addition to the above, lane closures will continue to operate as and when necessary on Broadway and on the approach / exit roads in the vicinity of the A470 Cross Valley Interchange Roundabout (Sainsbury’s Roundabout).
Traffic signs giving advance notification of proposed road closures will be provide prior to the closures coming into effect as well as signs for the diversionary routes when the roads are closed. Signs advising drivers of lane closures will also be provided.
All road closures and or disruptions will be kept to a minimum in order to reduce the impact this has on motorists and Sainsbury’s is urging those affected to bear with them as this will be for their longer term benefit.
Whilst the works and closures are in force diversion signs will be in place which will advise those affected of the best alternative route to take.
