Residents of Mountain Ash are being offered a very special transport service to their local library thanks to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council.

Those residents who are unable to reach their local library due to age or disability can now take advantage of the new Transport to the Library Service.

Throughout many parts of the County Borough the Council’s Libraries Service operates the initiative for those who find it difficult to get out of their homes and who do not have their own transport. The programme is now being introduced in the community of Mountain Ash.

Once per month users can be picked up from their home and taken to Mountain Ash Library to use the many services on offer, whether it’s borrowing a book or going online.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Justice Cllr Craig Middle explained, “This unique service offers an absolute lifeline for those residents who, owing to ill health, age or disability and do not have their own transport, can still visit their local library.

“The quantity and quality of services on offer in all of our libraries throughout Rhondda Cynon Taf is exemplary and our Transport to the Library Service offers residents the opportunity to enjoy those facilities.

“In addition, at Mountain Ash library access to other Council services is available on an appointment basis, at the recently introduced One 4 All Centre development, which has brought the Council’s face to face customer services closer to residents living in this area.”

The new One4All centre is where residents can conveniently meet with an experienced advisor to undertake transactions with the Council, such as applications for Council Tax and Housing Benefits, a bus pass or Blue Badge, reporting defects like pot holes or street lights not working, seek initial Planning advice, as well as a host of other enquiries. Payments can also be made easily using a new self-service kiosk.

The Transport to Library Service is free and operates monthly in the communities in which it services. Application to this service is subject to an assessment.
