Who qualifies for a residents permit?

Residents who live within the residents parking area and who keep and use a passenger car, motorcycle, or invalid carriage on a full-time basis may qualify for a permit. Other vehicles may also qualify for a permit.

Permits are issued strictly on the basis of one permit per resident.

Note for orange/blue badge holders

If you have a disabled persons blue badge you can park in a limited waiting space for as long as you wish. In accordance with the orange/blue badge scheme you may park for up to three hours on single or double yellow lines, except where loading restrictions apply as indicated by kerb markings and signposts.

You can park in resident permit holder’s spaces for up to 3 hours only.

How to use your permit

All permits must be displayed clearly in the windscreen of the vehicle.

What the permit allows you to do

The permit will let you park in any parking spaces within the relevant scheme which are reserved for permit holders.

How to apply

Application forms are available from our offices. Use the contact details below to obtain the relevant forms. In addition to the application form, you will need to supply additional documentation in support of your application. In every case you must supply a copy of either the relevant registration document or certificate of insurance for the vehicle. Also if you are a tenant you must supply a copy of your tenancy agreement or form RP3 Evidence of Residence. Form RP3 must be countersigned by your Landlord or their agent.

Your duties as a permit holder

It is your duty to ensure:

  • your permit is valid
  • your permit has not expired
  • that the registration number is correct
  • your permit is used in accordance with the conditions of issue

Renewing your permit

Permits are valid for up to 12 months and expire on the 31st August each year. You are responsible for renewing your permit at the end of each period. Permit holders will be contacted during early August each year inviting them to renew their permit for a further year.

Amending your permit

If you change your vehicle or move home to another qualifying address during the permit year, you will need to apply for an amended permit. Application forms are available from our offices. Use the contact details below to obtain the relevant forms. You will need to supply the relevant supporting documentation for your new vehicle. Similary if you will be a tenant at your new property, you must supply a copy of your tenancy agreement or form RP3 Evidence of Residence. Form RP3 must be countersigned by your Landlord or their agent. In all cases you must surrender your existing permit for cancellation before any amended permit can be issued.

Withdrawal of a permit

A permit may be withdrawn or invalidated if:

  • it is found that a permit is not being used in accordance with these guidelines
  • it is found that a person is no longer eligible to hold a permit
  • the permit is altered or defaced in anyway or passed to unauthorised users
