Parking on pavements so as to obstruct them is an offence. Even if an obstruction is not caused, it is an offence to drive on the pavement.
In regard to caravans, boats and trailers on the public highway the following applies:
- Highways Act 1980 – The council may take action against owners who park caravans (or boats or trailers) on the highway. In the first instance the council will issue a notice requesting removal.
- Road vehicle lighting regulations 1989 requires that if caravans are left on the highway at night the vehicles lights must be switched on. Also, caravans left close to or opposite junctions can cause an obstruction or danger to pedestrians or motorists for enforcement purposes.
