Children and their parents or carers can get active in a huge range of free Leisure activities during the school holidays, thanks to Rhondda Cynon Taf’s ‘High 5’ leisure programme.
High 5 was launched in 2006 to provide children and young people with safe and healthy activities during the school holidays.
Youngsters aged 16 and under and their families can take part in free activities at all of Rhondda Cynon Taf’s leisure centres and pools during ALL school holidays, including Christmas and Easter. Saturdays and Sundays are not included in the free High 5 programme.
Football, basketball, table tennis, squash, badminton and other activities are on offer, absolutely free of charge. Activities on offer will vary at each centre, so please ask what is on offer and when at your local leisure centre or consult the respective leisure centre/swimming pool activity timetable.
High 5 ‘dry side’ activities - such as football, racquet sports and gym use - are on offer between 9am-5pm during all school holidays and parents are welcome to join in. Some dry-side sports activities are supervised by Leisure staff.
Swimming and free swimming lessons are also available at all of Rhondda Cynon Taf’s pools, as part of the High 5 scheme. Youngsters and their families can swim for free between 11am and 4.30pm during the holidays at all pools within RCT, with families-only swimming between 4.30pm-5.30pm.
Most pools also offer a range of other free water-based activities during the holidays, including life-saving skills, aqua fun, snorkelling and diving.
By attending their local swimming pool 20 times and taking part in 10 different activities during the holiday period, young swimmers will be eligible for a free three-month 'more max' leisure card as part of the ‘2010 Challenge.’
An individual timetable for the coached/supervised activities, together with any additional unsupervised activities that do not fall within the ‘standard activity’ category, can be seen by clicking on the respective leisure centre or swimming pool links below:
