Leader's Annual Summary

Every October I deliver my annual summary to full Council which details what the Council has achieved over the last twelve months and sets out what we want to achieve moving forward. To ensure the widest possible engagement with residents, this online summary has been produced.

Positive things are happening in Rhondda Cynon Taf as we deliver upon our ambitions for the entire County Borough. Despite a backdrop of continued funding reductions, significant investment is taking place across the County to ensure that we will deliver upon our priorities with visible improvements happening throughout our communities.

As a Council, we will, over the next twelve months and the course of this Council term, continue to build upon the strong foundations already in place to create the right opportunities to secure an ambitious future for Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Regenerating our County Borough

Town Centres, Major Infrastructure and Highways

“Infrastructure is fundamental in taking RCT forward, and in recent years, we have made significant investments in this area.  From our £33.6m highways programme to the Taff Vale redevelopment and support for our town centres, we are committed to continuing to invest in taking the entire County Borough forward."

Investing in our Future

Schools, Education Budget, Apprentices and Graduates, Childcare

“From the largest investment in school facilities in Wales to the provision of employment opportunities for young people in RCT, the Council places a huge importance on creating a thriving County that is fit for our future generations.”

A Healthy and Active RCT

Outdoor Leisure and 3G, Leisure Centres, Play Areas

“Our ambitious approach of investing in our leisure centres has seen a record rise in the number of residents using fitness and leisure facilities, whilst play areas across the County are being improved and 3G pitches are being created in Rhondda, Cynon and Taff.  We will continue to invest in these areas to ensure that we help to play our part in making RCT a fit, healthy and active County.”

The Heart of the Region

City Deal/Metro

“Situated at the heart of the region, the £1.2bn City Deal offers enormous potential for RCT, and the Council has already taken steps to ensure that the whole of the County Borough is able to benefit from the transformative opportunities afforded by this extremely exciting project.”

A Cleaner, Greener RCT

Dog Fouling, Recycling, Green Spaces

“Through record recycling rates and adopting a tough stance on those who spoil our environment, RCT Council is ensuring that residents are able to live in clean communities.”

Caring for our Communities

Extra Care, St Mair’s

“The demands of the 21st Century require new and innovative approaches to providing the best quality service, and RCT Council is looking to lead the way in providing sustainable and fit for purpose services for our older generations.  By working with partners, the Council will look to develop strong community hubs and a model of care that respects the demand for independence.”
