Vintage Bus Shuttle Service – Free hourly return journey from Rhondda Heritage Park - Hetty Engine House. Hop onboard a 1966 AEC Regent V, which was operated throughout its working life by Rhondda Transport from Porth Depot. The last half-cab bus ( a separate driver’s cab and front bonnet) bought by Rhondda. The bus will take you to the Hetty the only large steam engine in Wales still able to operate under its own power. Bus timetable on the hour from Rhondda Heritage Park & 5 past the hour from the Hetty 12:00 PM Black Gold Experience – Free Our exclusive Black Gold Experience takes you into the original lamp room, where you will collect your miner’s helmet and lamp - and it is here your journey begins. You can almost hear the banter between the miners at the start and the end of their shifts. Enjoy the tales of our tour guides as you make your way across the original colliery Court Yard. 1:30 PM & 3:00 PM: Free Historical Talk ‘Rhondda on Film’ Historic footage of Rhondda in film. Relax and be entertained with a little more nostalgia and reminiscing. A selection of historic photographs and film footage telling the story of Rhondda in the Twentieth century specially selected and delivered by Dr Daryl Leeworthy for Open Doors. There will also be a variety of Rhondda Cynon Taff history societies on site to share their particular fields of knowledge and expertise. Booking is essential for the free underground experience.
