How do I get there?

Where is the nearest train station?

Mountain Ash Train Station is in the heart of the town centre very close to where the races take place.

Where is the nearest bus station?

In Mountain Ash Town Centre.

Park and Ride

A free Nos Galan Park and Ride service will operate once again this year. A shuttle bus will run every 10 - 15 minutes from 3.30pm until 9.30pm on 31st December. The bus will leave from Mountain Ash Comprehensive School (CF45 4DG), and Mountain Ash Rugby Club Car Park (CF45 4DA), with drop off and return collection from the bus stop outside the Aberdare Hotel, Ffrwd Crescent, near the town bridge. 
Motorists are advised to follow the road signs on the A4059 to the Nos Galan Park and Ride facility.

What times are the shuttle buses operating?

The first bus will leave Mountain Ash Comprehensive School at 3.30pm and will run every 10 - 15 minutes. The last bus will leave Aberdare Hotel at 9.30pm.  For full travel information please click here.

What time are the road closures in effect?

3.30pm - 10pm.

Where can I change/leave my things?

Canolfan Pennar CF45 3HD (previously Mountain Ash Day Centre) will be available for use as a changing facility and as a place where you can store your kit whilst running. This facility will be available from 4.30pm and will close at 8.30pm, and belongings are left at the owner’s risk.

PLEASE NOTE – access to the Canolfan Pennar is for RUNNERS ONLY.
To enter, you will need to show your unique race number.

Where do I collect my race pack from?

All race packs have been sent via Royal Mail and should be received before Christmas.

Is there any entertainment?

There will be a small selection of young children funfair rides and a firework display will take place at 6.30pm. 

What time do the races start?

What are the prizes?

Every runner will receive a goody bag containing a medal, t-shirt, bottle of water and chocolate bar. 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each of the respective races will be awarded a trophy.

How do I attach my race number to my clothing?

Safety pins are provided in your race pack.

Where are the public toilets?

Public toilets are located behind the main street in Henry Street car park. Additional toilets can be found outside the day centre.

Can I run with my dog?

No, unfortunately running with dogs or any other pets is not allowed due to insurance and health and safety issues.

Can I run in fancy dress?

Yes, but the following guidelines must be adhered to:

  • Costumes must not be deemed offensive, or dangerous to spectators or other competitors.
  • Costumes (individual or group) must be of appropriate size (i.e. must not exceed 900mm in diameter) to allow other competitors to safely pass during the race.
  • Costumes must not restrict the competitor’s ability to compete.
  • Costumes must be worn and not pushed or pulled – i.e. pushchairs or trollies.

If you are uncertain on whether your fancy dress is suitable please contact us by phoning 01443 424123 to check as failing to comply with these guidelines, may result in you forfeiting your place in the race.

The Mayor will judge the best costume on the evening and the winner will receive a prize.

What do I do if I lose my race number/chip?

E-mail nosgalan@rctcbc.gov.uk with your name and address and the race you entered.

I can't run now, can I pass my number on?

All race places are non-transferable. Anyone found to be taking part using another person’s unique race number will be disqualified.

Race Times: Please be aware that this year your timing chip will be located within your unique race number, as opposed to being fastened to your trainer or ankle. This will avoid the need for runners to stop to remove their timing chip once they have crossed the finish line, relieving congestion at this point.

What is the length of the course?

5k for adults elite and fun races, 600m for 8, 9, 10 & 11 year olds and 1.2km for 12, 13, 14 & 15 year olds.
