The Council faces a budget gap of £23.7m in 2016/17, with a further budget gap of up to £42.3m for the following financial year (2017/18).
Savings must be made across the authority, which will inevitably mean changes to the way in which services are delivered and maintained in the future.
We will consult and engage with communities and stakeholders to inform our work on the Budget Challenge in three main ways:
1. Annual budget consultation:
Our annual consultation on the Council's Budget Plan is an essential piece of work that allows us to ensure our spending priorities reflect those of our communities.
This gives us a firm foundation when it comes to identifying the services that matter the most.
Get involved in Annual Budget Consultation by contacting the Consultation Team or consider joining our Citizens' Panel to get the latest news and updates on consultation and engagement.
Find out more general information on the Budget Challenge Page.
2. Share ideas on how we can save money or generate income
We are committed to doing all we can to save money or generate income before considering making difficult decisions about the future of a Council service.
We know there are lots of residents and organisations in the county borough that have ideas on how the Council can save money or generate income and we want to hear from you.
All ideas, no matter how big or small, are welcomed and all reasonable proposals will be considered.
Share your ideas for money-saving or income-generation
3. Have your say on change proposals relating to specific services
When a decision has been made to consider changing the way a service is delivered, the Council is committed to consulting and engaging as widely as it can with as big a range of people as possible.
This can include an online survey, public information and engagement events, stakeholder briefings and the chance to share your views via email or letter.
