Following a high standard of entries this year, the 2017 Nos Galan Poster Competition winners have been announced.
Each year an art competition is held across the County Borough, with all primary schools eligible to enter. The aim is to design and create a poster using an arts medium of their choice in order to come up with an image which encapsulates the atmosphere of the world-famous Nos Galan Road Races.
Organised by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Nos Galan Committee, the competition is always well supported.
This year’s winner is Daniel Nash, of Ton Pentre Junior School, with Halle Price, of Pengeulan Primary School in second place and Kian Jenkins, of Ton Pentre Primary School in third place.
Cllr Ann Crimmings, Chair of the Nos Galan Committee and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure, said: “Once again we had a fantastic number of entries, all depicting wonderful images of the Nos Galan Road Races.
“Congratulations to Daniel on his winning entry, portraying the words Nos Galan written in the sky. The judges felt that this striking design fitted perfectly with the great success of our event, year-on-year.
“Congratulations also to Halle and Kian, and everyone else who sent us their entries - they were all of a very high standard. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the 2017 Nos Galan Road Races on New Year’s Eve.”
The 2017 Nos Galan Road Races are being sponsored by local firm Tom Prichard Ltd; Amgen, provider of Rhondda Cynon Taf’s waste management services; Trivallis, one of Wales’ largest registered social landlords providing homes for thousands of families across the County Borough; and Communities First.
More than 1,000 people will be taking part in this year’s 5k Adult Fun Run on the streets of Mountain Ash on December 31, with a further 325 athletes competing in the Elite Race - and many more in the childrens’ races.
Each person who crosses the finishing line will receive a commemorative Nos Galan t-shirt, medal and a goodie bag.
To facilitate this event, there will be temporary road closures in place on December 31 along Llanwonno Road, Cilhaul Terrace, High Street, Oxford Street and surrounding areas.
The 2017 Nos Galan Road Races take place on Sunday, December 31. For regular updates follow Nos Galan Races on Twitter and Facebook. Also visit www.nosgalan.co.uk
