The Welsh Food Festival is back this weekend, celebrating all the culinary delights from around the country – and it promises to be the ‘coolest’ summer event around!
Big Welsh Bite 2017, which takes place at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd, on August 5-6, is this year being sponsored by family-run local ice cream firm Subzero.
The Council’s annual two-day food festival attracts thousands of visitors from all over. Once again this year, there will be many attractions, including a fine array of food and craft stalls and a packed itinerary of arena shows and side attractions.
The Council is delighted to have award-winning Subzero as its event sponsor for 2017.
Cllr Maureen Webber, Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Council Business, said: “Big Welsh Bite is such a popular family event, therefore it is fitting that we join forces with our sponsor Subzero, a popular, home-grown company.
“The event showcases and celebrates local companies and produce, and attracts thousands of visitors each year, providing a boost to the local economy.
“Big Welsh Bite, now into its 14th year, is a celebration of Welsh cuisine. Our event not only promotes all we have to offer within our County Borough, but it is also an event that all the family can enjoy.”
Big Welsh Bite takes place at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd, on August 5-6, from 11am until 5pm.
There will be plenty of parking available in and around the town centre over the weekend, all within walking distance of Ynysanghraad War Memorial Park. It will cost just £1 to park all day in long-stayCouncil car parks on Saturday and FREE on Sunday.
Having been formed since 1959, Subzero is based in the heart of the Rhondda Valleys. The company opened its first ice cream parlour in 1974, selling directly to shops and to the public.
But due to an increase in demand for its products, Subzero has since relocated to a purpose-built unit on the Ely Industrial Estate in Williamstown, and business is booming!
Subzero has been crowned British champions six times, Royal Welsh Show champions and has received Gold, Silver and Bronze accolades at the Great Taste Awards.
Subzero managing director Kevin Jenkins, said: “We are delighted to be the sponsors of this year’s Big Welsh Bite, a food festival that celebrates everything that is good about Wales.
“As an award-winning Welsh ice cream producer, which was formed in the County Borough and is still based in the area, we are ambassadors for the food industry in Wales and are proud to be associated with such a high-profile event, right here on our doorstep in Rhondda Cynon Taf.”
All produce available at Big Welsh Bite will be grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or processed by the stallholders themselves, resulting in a scrumptious range of local produce.
From cupcakes to Indian spices, there will be something for everyone and a vast range of food to eat on site as well as to take home with you.
Last year more than 13,000 people flocked to Big Welsh Bite. There will also be FREE family entertainment and cookery demonstrations throughout the weekend.
