Rhondda Cynon Taf Council opened the hi-tech fitness suite at the popular facility as part of its ongoing RCTinvest programme to create modern, attractive leisure centres that encourage residents to enjoy a healthier lifestyle.

The new gym offers an exciting experience for residents aged 11 and over and is packed with the latest equipment from Technogym, including top of the range treadmills and cross trainers, exercise bikes and a range of new resistance training machines to complement all fitness programmes.Make sure you like Tonyrefail Leisure Centre's Facebook page for more images of the equipment and videos of how it can be used. Also new in at the leisure centre are 25 group cycle spin bikes, which will be located in the refurbished fitness rooms for classes.

All the equipment is connected by the latest technology.

Gym users log in via an app at the beginning of a gym session to monitor their past and current performance, secure the results of their workout and more.

The app allows expert gym staff to support people towards their health and wellbeing goals.

All of the gym staff at Tonyrefail Leisure Centre have been trained on the new equipment and are on hand at all times to advise existing and new gym users on how to get the most out of the exciting range of new equipment and to support them towards their fitness goals.

Cllr Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure, said: "Tonyrefail is the latest leisure centre to benefit from our RCTinvest programme and customers and staff are very excited about the new gym at Tonyrefail Leisure Centre - for good reason.

"The modern equipment and the use of latest technology to ensure everyone gets the most out of their workout is a huge asset to the already-popular leisure centre, which also has a pool, the only Aqua Gym in the county borough, indoor sports hall, fitness suites and a great range of fitness classes to enjoy.

"Leisure for Life members will be able to enjoy unlimited access to the new gym, fitness classes, indoor sports and swimming (including swimming lessons)at Tonyrefail and all other Council leisure centres for around £8 a week.

"Those who are not yet members are being invited to enjoy their first gym session and swim at Tonyrefail Leisure Centre for free, as we celebrate the completion of investment at the centre."

The new gym at Tonyrefail Leisure Centre complements wider investment via the Welsh  Government's 21st Century Schools programme in Tonyrefail. The centre, its new gym and also a 3g pitch created to the rear of the centre in Tyn Y Bryn playing fields will also benefit pupils at the new school when it opens.

Leisure for Life is an easy, affordable leisure membership that was introduced in line with investment to encourage more people to get involved in leisure.

Members enjoy unlimited access to the gym, fitness classes, swimming (including swimming lessons) and indoor sports at any or all Council leisure centre for around £8 a week (£35 p/m direct debit).

The membership has a concessionary rate for those aged under 16 and over 60, which enables unlimited access to gym, swim, classes and indoor sports at all Council leisure centres for £21 a month (direct debit) or less than £5 a week.
