Registration for the Nos Galan Road Races only opened at 10am on Tuesday, September 5, but in a record-breaking few days, the Elite Race and 5K Adult Fun Run are now both FULL – four months before the event takes place
An amazing 1,050 people will be taking part in the Adult Fun Run and 325 athletes will be competing in the Elite Race, with places filled in less than four days.
There are still places remaining in all children’s races, but sign up soon to avoid disappointment. The price of race entry is £6 for all Childrens’ Races.
Childrens’ Races: Online Registration
Organised by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, in association with the Nos Galan Committee, the annual Nos Galan Road Races take place in Mountain Ash each New Year’s Eve, in memory of legendary Welsh runner Guto Nyth Bran.
Celebrating its 59th anniversary, this is the fastest time in the history of the event that all Elite and Adult Fun Run places have been snapped up.
Cllr Ann Crimmings, chair of the Nos Galan Committee and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure, said: “Race places are always in great demand, with all race categories full to capacity well in advance of race night. But never before have we experienced demand of this magnitude.
“It is not that many years ago that we even had a Registration Desk on race night itself, but those days have now gone as more and more people race to get their place.
“The huge popularity of this event is down to the wonderful legacy gifted to us by our races founder, the late Bernard Baldwin MBE, and to the organisation of the event year-on-year.”
The Nos Galan Road Races, which started in 1958, attracts thousands of athletes of all ages and abilities from around the world. But demand for places this year has been greater than ever before.
The event, on Sunday, December 31, 2017, consists of a series of childrens’ races, an Elite Race and a 5K Adult Fun Run around Mountain Ash town centre.
Each year a celebrity Mystery Runner also represents the spirit of Guto Nyth Bran. Last year’s Nos Galan Mystery Runner was Wales’ football manager Chris Coleman OBE.
The 2017 Nos Galan Road Races take place on Sunday, December 31. For regular updates follow Nos Galan Races on Twitter and Facebook. Also visit www.nosgalan.co.uk
