The Welsh Mining Experience is officially an award-winning attraction after picking up the ‘Family Venue of the Year’ title at the Welsh Hospitality Awards held at the Coal Exchange Cardiff.
The Welsh Hospitality Awards celebrate the venues and attractions which provide residents and visitors with great experiences and enhance the Welsh hospitality industry.
The Council’s Welsh Mining Experience was also highly commended for the Best Entertainment Team as it fought off nine other popular tourist attractions in Wales to claim the coveted title of ‘Family Venue of the Year.’
Councillor Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Heritage Services, said: “I am extremely pleased to see that the Welsh Mining Experience has won this award and I would like to congratulate all of those involved in achieving this success.
“To win the Family Venue of the Year award is a fitting recognition of all the wonderful work that goes on at the family tourist attraction, following the Council’s substantial investment in recent years.
“We are delighted that more and more people than ever before are visiting the Welsh Mining Experience, which is now officially an award-winning venue.”
The third Welsh Hospitality Awards provides a platform to thank everyone who is committed to making Wales a friendly place to visit, acknowledges those who make a real difference, as well as recognising the efforts that professionals put in to ensure their customers always receive the best service and visitor experience possible.
The winners, chosen by the public, are a true reflection of the commitment, quality and impeccable customer service that flows in the hospitality industry.
The awards provide a platform to thank those who constantly deliver memorable experiences to their customers, as well as those who make Wales a friendly place for visitors.
The Council’s popular tourist attraction welcomes families from all over the world, all eager to enjoy the sights and sounds of what it would have been like working underground in a coal mine.
The Welsh Mining Experience is situated at the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery in Trehafod. Original features include the pithead gear, lamp room, and the Trefor and Bertie Winding Houses.
In recent months, thousands of people have attended Halloween themed events held at the Welsh Mining Experience, and already over 14,000 more have booked for Santa’s Toy Mine, making it the most successful year for the event to date.
Black Gold Experience Underground guided tours recommence at the Welsh Mining Experience in January, following the end of the Santa’s Toy Mine event.
