The Council will be carrying out essential repair works at Upper Boat, requiring a series of overnight road closures.
The work includes the replacement of deck joints to the bridge supporting Gwaelod-Y-Garth Road, and road closures in both directions – as indicated on the map – are required due to the road layout. They have been scheduled for overnight working (8pm to 6am), as the quickest and safest measure to carry out the project with as minimal disruption as possible.
Works will begin at 8pm on Wednesday, October 17. However, the work is very weather-dependent, and could be extended or postponed in the event of inclement weather.

The diversion routes will be clearly signposted for motorists during each period of overnight working. From the south western side of the closure motorists should proceed via Tonteg Road, A473 Llantwit Road, Park Street, Fothergill Street, Glyntaff Roundabout and A4054 Cardiff Road.
From the north eastern side of the closure, an alternative route is via Upper Boat Roundabout, A4054 Cardiff Road, Glyntaff Roundabout, River Street, Forest Road, A473 Llantwit Road and Tonteg Road.
Please note, there will be an advisory 5mph speed limit at Gwaelod-Y-Garth Road during the day time, throughout the period of works. The existing access will be maintained for pedestrians at all times, but access will not be maintained for emergency services during working hours (8pm to 6am).
There will also be a change to the Edwards 400 bus service, from Beddau to Cardiff, during working hours only (8pm to 6am). This service will divert via Treforest in both directions.
The Council will communicate updates on the works, including any postponement and/or extension due to inclement weather, on its social media accounts – at Rhondda Cynon Taf (Facebook) and @RCTCouncil (Twitter).
