Nos Galan Road Races 2018

Demand for a ‘place to race’ this year is greater than ever and all who still have not managed to register are advised to book online as soon as registration re-opens on Monday, September 24 at 5pm, to avoid any disappointment.

Before completing the online registration, those considering taking part need to be aware that there is an amended route for this year’s Nos Galan Road Races due to the construction of the multi-million-pound Cross Valley Link. The new route can be found here:

The race registration fees for 2018 are frozen, and remain the same as last year - £10 (affiliated athletes); £12 (non-affiliated athletes); £6 (children).

Please note: There will be no race registration on the night.

Councillor Ann Crimmings, chair of the Nos Galan Committee and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Heritage Services, said: “We are delighted with the initial online registration response. We always knew that the Nos Galan Road Races grow in popularity year-on-year, especially with this being our special 60th anniversary year.

“In order to allow everyone the opportunity to take part this year, a three-phase online registration system has been introduced, allowing individuals to make arrangements to be able to register.

“Once again, we have been overwhelmed by the demand and the response for this amazing event. Even if you are not taking part, we hope to see as many of people coming along on New Year’s Eve to be a part of this very special night.”

The Nos Galan Road Races take place in Mountain Ash on December 31 each year, in memory of legendary Welsh runner Griffith Morgan (Guto Nyth Bran). They were started 60 years ago by race founder, the late Bernard Baldwin MBE.

The annual event attracts thousands of athletes of all ages and abilities from around the world. The event consists of a series of Childrens’ Races, an Elite Race and an Adult 5K fun run around Mountain Ash town centre.

Each year a celebrity Mystery Runner also represents the spirit of Guto Nyth Bran. Last year’s Nos Galan Mystery Runners were former world champion boxer Nathan Cleverly and former Wales and British and Irish Lions rugby player Colin Charvis.

Previous Nos Galan Mystery Runners have included Chris Coleman, Colin Jackson, Linford Christie, Alun Wyn Jones, Ron Jones, David Bedford, Nicole Cooke, Lillian Board, Ron Jones, Shane Williams and many more.

The 2018 Nos Galan Road Road Races take place on Monday, December 31. For regular updates follow Nos Galan Races on Twitter and Facebook. Also visit www.nosgalan.co.uk
