An entire new range of gym equipment is being installed at Sobell Leisure Centre, thanks to more than £300,000 investment to deliver the best-possible facilities for residents.
An exciting development at the Aberdare centre will see the replacement of existing fitness equipment with brand new Technogym kit, offering customers more exercise and training options.
A new, dedicated Spin Studio, with 23 new bikes, will offer customers the very latest immersive and interactive indoor cycling classes.
Cllr Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Heritage Services, said: “Sobell Leisure Centre is one of our newest centres, following its redevelopment as part of the wider Ynys scheme.
“It currently has nearly 2,000 members and we want to ensure they have the best-possible facilities with their Leisure for Life membership.
“The replacement equipment at Sobell Leisure Centre will be very similar to that installed at the recent £1m Rhondda Fach Leisure Centre.
“The free weight area will increase by adding more plate loading machines. All the cardio machines will also be upgraded with the addition of the Technogym Excite climb, Skillmill and Skillbike. Also due to popular demand the number of Watt bikes will also increase.
“The centre is also introducing Technogym’s Omnia so there are lots of exciting new studio classes.Importantly, all of the equipment uses the latest technology to help you get the most out of your workout and all Leisure for Life gym staff will be highly trained to support you and your fitness journey.”
Work on the new-look fitness suite and spin studio is set to begin the Sep 2 and last a month.
All efforts are being made to minimise disruption during the improvement works, but there will be a closure of the gym, which will be announced when they are confirmed.
Thanks to the inclusivity of Leisure for Life, members will be able to use the gyms at any of the other 8 centres during the closure.
Use of the Ron Jones Stadium athletics facility will also be covered under Leisure for Life membership for the duration of work, for those who wish to run on the track or enjoy field athletics.
Gym staff will also be taking advantage of the studio at the stadium – plus existing facilities in Sobell Leisure Centre – to deliver an additional classes timetable during the works.
