Cllr Powderhill - Mayor-2

Last year’s Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Councillor Steve Powderhill, raised a staggering over £41,000 for the Mayor’s Charity Appeal, which was donated to various local charities including Giving to Pink, Velindre Hospital, Welsh Hearts and many others.

Throughout his year as Mayor, Councillor Powderhill was keen to meet as many people across the County Borough as he could, helping to raise the profile of many charities and fundraising groups across Rhondda Cynon Taf. Councillor Powderhill had a busy year fundraising, which included a Charity Golf Day, Quiz Nights, Three Peaks Challenge and many more events to raise as much money as he could for the Mayor’s Charity Appeal.

A number of local charities will now benefit from the Mayor’s Charity Appeal, helping them to carry on undertaking the valued work they do for many people in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Councillor Steve Powderhill, said: “I am so pleased that during my year in Mayor I have managed to raise over £41,000 for local charities that do so much for the people of Rhondda Cynon Taf.

“None of this would have been possible without the generosity and dedication of the people here in Rhondda Cynon Taf, and it is testament to their charitable and kind ways. This is a huge sum of money, which will go to local charities that do so much for the people of our County Borough.

“I have been extremely fortunate to meet so many hard-working volunteers from wonderful organisations, who without, the charities would not be able to undertake the vital work that they do.

“I cannot thank the people of Rhondda Cynon Taf enough for the way in which they have donated to the Mayor’s Charity Appeal, and assure them that this money will change the lives of so many local people.

“I have always been very passionate about the community in which I was raised, live and work and I am pleased that I have had the opportunity to help support people right across Rhondda Cynon Taf during my time as Mayor."

The role of Mayor is a far-reaching one, of which raising charity funds is just a part. This year’s Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Councillor Linda De Vet, continues fundraising for the Mayor’s Charity Appeal for her chosen charities which include Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales, Friends of Animals Wales and New Horizons Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre.
