West End star Sophie Evans is returning to where it all began for her, with two intimate shows at the Park & Dare Theatre.
Rhondda-born Sophie, fresh from starring as Glinda in the smash-hit musical Wicked, stars in her very own concert for two consecutive nights on home soil.
The cabaret-style performance will include her all-time favourite songs and musical smash hits in the intimate setting of the Lounge Bar.
As a child, Sophie performed with the Mid-Rhondda Operatic Society, making her stage debut in the main auditorium of the Park & Dare Theatre at a young age. But she first captivated national television audiences as a 17-year-old in the star search show Over the Rainbow, firmly establishing herself as a stage and screen rising star.
Councillor Rhys Lewis, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, Well-being and Cultural Services, said: “Sophie Evans is now a star of stage and screen, but she has never forgotten her Welsh roots and we are delighted to welcome her back to the theatre where it all started for her.
“Sophie Evans has an army of fans and I am sure many will be flocking to the Park & Dare Theatre in September to hear her sing in close proximity. This will be a unique opportunity to see her perform in such a small setting in her home town.”
Although she just narrowly missed out on the top spot in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s BBC TV talent search in 2010, the talented teenager from Tonypandy eventually stepped on to the ‘Yellow Brick Road’ as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium.
Since then, Sophie has starred on stage in productions of Lord of the Dance and You Won’t Succeed On Broadway and on the big screeninhit moviesPrideandThe World’s End.
In 2011, Sophie Evans performed at the then-named Millennium Stadium in Cardiff ahead of the Wales v France semi-final clash in the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
She also performed as Dorothy at the 2012 Olivier Awards at the Royal Opera House in London and presented and starred in The Really Welsh Christmas Show for BBC the same year.
She left Wicked on July 20, 2019, and was replaced by Helen Woolf.
