The Council’s annual Love Where You Live Awards are returning in 2019 – and there’s still time for you to nominate the environmental heroes making a big difference in communities across Rhondda Cynon Taf.
The Awards celebrate the groups and individuals going above and beyond to keep the County Borough clean and green – recognising them at a special summer ceremony. Love Where You Live returns for an 11th year in 2019 – and you have until the end of March 2019 to get your nominations in.
Last year there were eight categories, including Community Environmental Champion, Best School Environmental Initiative and School Environmental Champion. The Overall Winner was chosen from the eight category winners.
The reigning Love Where You Live winner is Rhondda Fundraisers – a small group of volunteers who collect unwanted household items and auction them off online, to raise vital funds for their local community.
They have provided local groups with new items such as new rugby kits, cheerleading uniforms and defibrillators, having raised an incredible £15,000 in three years – all by collecting things people were going to throw away!
So, do you know any group in Rhondda Cynon Taf which goes out of its way to help the environment? Or do you know an individual who loves where they live and goes the extra mile for a greener community? Nominate them now!
Councillor Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Heritage Services, said: “Love Where You Live continues to be a fantastic milestone in the Council’s annual calendar, and I’m delighted that we’ll be recognising our green heroes again this year. The past 10 years have seen many brilliant individuals and groups celebrated, and I’m looking forward to meeting even more of them in 2019.
“Keeping our County Borough clean and recycling as much waste as possible is so important, and Rhondda Cynon Taf is currently doing a great job. But there’s always room for improvement, and we continue ‘The Choice Is Clear’ campaign to improve our recycling even further, to hit the 70% Welsh Government target by 2024/25. The Council has also joined forces with five other Local Authorities to recently launch the ‘Everyone’s Doing It’ campaign.
“Love Where You Live 2019 nominations are now open, and I would urge residents to put forward the environmental heroes within their communities – in order for their passion and commitment to be recognised.”
