It’s the most wonderful time of the year at the Welsh Mining Experience, Rhondda Heritage Park, as Santa Claus transforms the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery into a magical grotto for the season.
Santa’s Toy Mine, which welcomed thousands of excited visitors last year, is returning to the award-winning attraction from November 23 to December 24.
Enjoy festive fun by the sled-load, with a magical festive tour through the Toy Mine that includes a meeting with Father Christmas himself, gifts for the children and mince pies and hot drinks for adults, plus, if you want to add to your tour, festive arts and crafts and a chocolate making workshop are also available.
Santa’s Toy Miners will take you and your group on a magical journey through the Toy Mine on a search for Father Christmas. Your group will have a chance to meet him – of course, but he will check what is on your list and if you have been on your best behaviour!
There’s a gift for every child, with hot drinks and a mince pie for the adults. Santa’s Toy Mine adventures last around 20 minutes.
Why not make a day of it by booking on to festive arts and crafts sessions at Craft of Hearts, the Welsh Mining Experience’s on-site centre for all things creative? This is your child’s chance to make a gift to take home for someone special.
The Chocolate House, which has a shop on site where you can purchase award-winning chocolates, is also running mouth-watering chocolate making sessions where you can make your own sweet treat to take home.
There’s a Christmas craft market open every day which is perfect for browsing and picking up a festive bargain or two and Caffe Bracchi will also be open, selling delicious hot and cold meals and snacks plus drinks.
Councillor Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Heritage Services, said: “The Welsh Mining Experience at Rhondda Heritage Park is an award-winning family attraction all the year through but it really sparkles and shines at Christmas.
“Santa’s little helpers turn the mine into a festive display which is different every year, and children of all ages get the chance to join the search for Father Christmas and, of course, meet the man himself.
“This year we are delighted that Craft of Hearts and The Chocolate House, both of which are on-site at the Welsh Mining Experience, are also offering festive workshops that you can book online alongside your tour.”
Tickets are priced at £10.00 per person and everyone going on the experience is required to have purchased a ticket in advance. The Chocolate making workshop is £7.50 per person and the craft workshop is priced at £5.00 per person.
