Apprentice and Graduates

Forty-six people are about to start their careers with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council as part of the latest intake of Apprentices and Graduates.

With almost 90 apprentices and 40 graduates employed by the Council since 2017, these further 46 positions mean the Council has now surpassed its commitment to provide at least 150 apprentice and graduate employment opportunities between 2017-2021, helping young people in Rhondda Cynon Taf access quality training and employment.

The Council’s award-winning Apprenticeship Scheme and Graduate Programme have both attracted national acclaim over recent years in recognition of the positive approach adopted by the Council in providing employment opportunities to local residents.

Of the total 46 positions, 30 apprentices will be employed across a diverse range of Council departments including Fostering Services, Catering Services, Payroll & Payments, Access & Inclusion and Theatres; whilst the 15 graduates will begin their employment in fields such as Marketing, Accountancy, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Customer Experience, Project Management, General Practice Surveying, and Performance Management, as RCT Council trains and prepares the managers of the future.

Councillor Maureen Webber, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's Deputy Leader, said: “Over 150 people have now successfully gained a place on our award-winning apprenticeship and graduate employment programmes since 2017, with over 100 more in the years before.

“These numbers confirm this Council’s commitment to provide high quality employment opportunities and training to people, and means that we have already surpassed our manifesto pledge to create over 150 apprentice and graduate positions between 2017-2021, two years early!

“Although the Council has already fulfilled our apprentice and graduate position commitment early, we will continue to provide these opportunities until at least 2021, helping as many  people into high-quality employment, while futureproofing the Council with the skills needed in the years to come.

“And as one of the area’s largest employers I am delighted to see an extra 46 people begin their careers with us here at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, with their skills, knowledge and work ethic being a huge asset for the organisation.

“We’re proud that between 2012-2016, 100% of our Apprentices and Graduates achieved their full qualification framework, 92% secured employment once their scheme finished, with over 80% of these securing employment within the Council, while others went into further learning.

“This level of success has led to our initiatives receiving national acclaim for our approach to providing essential training and employment opportunities to the residents of Rhondda Cynon Taf.”

“I wish all our apprentices and graduates the best of luck as they start their careers here with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, and I look forward to seeing them progress and succeed in the workplace.”
