Taff Vale - crane

The second tower crane will shortly be removed from the Llys Cadwyn development site in Pontypridd, requiring an all-day road closure within the Town Centre on Sunday, September 15.

The Council’s contractor Willmott Dixon continues to make excellent progress on the former Taff Vale site, as the three buildings which make up the office-led mixed use development continue to evolve.

South Wales Metro operator Transport for Wales will be based at Number 1 Llys Cadwyn (building nearest Gas Road Car Park) – bringing hundreds of jobs to Pontypridd. Number 2 Llys Cadwyn (centre building) will include Grade A office floorspace and one food/drink unit, while 3 Llys Cadwyn (nearest Bridge Street) will be a gateway building incorporating a 21st Century library, Council customer contact point and a state-of-the-art leisure/fitness centre.

Construction of a footbridge from Llys Cadwyn to Ynysangharad War Memorial Park started in July 2019, to create an important pedestrian link.

In order to remove the second crane from site, Willmott Dixon will employ the same arrangements used during the removal of the first crane in June 2019.

On Sunday, September 15, Crossbrook Street will close from Gas Road Car Park to its junction with Gelliwastad Road/Morgan Street – and Taff Street will close from its junction with Bridge Street to the Town Centre fountain. Access will be maintained for pedestrians, but the Taff Street taxi rank will be closed.

The closure will start at 3am on Sunday and will last until 6pm – or until work is complete. Please note, these works are weather dependent.

Alternative vehicle access to the Town Centre will be diverted to Penuel Lane, which will be signposted, Town Centre businesses have been contacted in advance by Willmott Dixon. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Please note, Welsh Water and Wales & West Utilities will take advantage of the road closure to carry out essential minor works in relation to the water and gas supply for the new Llys Cadwyn buildings.
