On your marks, get set………go! The 2020 Nos Galan Virtual Challenge is now officially underway, with 2,600 people from all over the UK taking part throughout the month of December.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the current Welsh Government guidelines around mass gatherings, a decision was taken by the Committee to hold a ‘very different’ Nos Galan event this year.
This decision has been very well received by the public, with all 2,600 places being snapped up in a matter of days. All registered competitors now have the whole of December to complete the 5K distance.
This can be done either in one go, or over a longer period of time from December 1st to December 31st. But all competitors must record and submit evidence of the completion of their Nos Galan Virtual Challenge to event organisers in order to receive their commemorative medal and t-shirt. Competitors have until 31st December to complete the Virtual Nos Galan and until Friday, 8th January to submit the evidence.
Virtual Race 2020 – All You Need To Know
The 2020 Nos Galan Virtual Challenge is being organised by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Nos Galan Committee. Further information on submitting your information online can be found at www.nosgalan.co.uk.
Participants will be asked to complete the online evidence form and upload photographic evidence showing the completed 5K distance.
If running as a household, or as a small group (adhering to the latest social distancing guidance) then one form of evidence can be submitted with all your group members added to the one form.
Councillor Ann Crimmings, Chair of the Nos Galan Committee and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Heritage Services, said: “Race places are always in great demand and as we make history this year with the first-ever Nos Galan Virtual Challenge, demand has been as great as ever with all available race spaces being filled within the first week.
“I am delighted that 2,600 people successfully signed up and are embarking on the exciting virtual challenge, which I am sure will live long in the memory.
“On behalf of the Nos Galan Committee, I would like to thank all of those people who have registered to take part this year, supporting the Nos Galan Road Races and ensuring that the legend of Guto Nyth Bran is kept alive.”
