The Council Leader has today (June 23) made an announcement in relation to sports pitch fees:
Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, Councillor Andrew Morgan, said: “We fully appreciate that this has been an unprecedented year for our communities, firstly in terms of the flooding and secondly with the onset of a global pandemic.
“These factors have had a tremendous effect on our residents, businesses and communities and we are continuing to do all we can to provide support and keep our core services functioning.
“We recognise that these factors have also impacted greatly on many of our local sports clubs, which provide such an important social and recreational benefit to our communities and, in light of the fact that many will have had no opportunity to play or train over the past few months, the Council has taken the decision to waive pitch fees for local sports clubs and groups for both the forthcoming 2020/21 winter season and the current summer 2020 season.
“The lockdown restrictions in particular will have meant that many clubs will have struggled to fundraise, which is usually their primary source of funding.
“We have a strong commitment to supporting local sports through significant annual investment in leisure facilities across RCT and I am keen to ensure that the Council adopts this approach in recognition of the extraordinary circumstances facing our clubs over the past six months in particular.”
