This-is-fostering

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is improving an already comprehensive package of benefits for foster carers, to encourage more people to consider supporting vulnerable children and young people in our communities.

RCT Council already has a comprehensive offer in place for foster carers that includes discount cards, Leisure for Life memberships, professional memberships and excellent learning and development opportunities, in addition to a competitive financial reward package.

A number of new financial rewards have now been introduced, including a £1,000 payment to foster carers who receive a fee for their fostering, which recognises the fantastic work foster carers do for vulnerable children and young people in their care. Foster carer fees and child allowances have also been increased from 1st April 2020.

These additional rewards highlight RCT Council’s commitment to our foster carers, the hard work and dedication shown by them, and the vital role they play in caring for some of the most vulnerable children and young people in our communities.

Councillor Tina Leyshon, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said: “We know that our foster carers don’t carry out this vital role for the financial reward, however, we hope that the additional financial reward, combined with an already comprehensive package of benefits will help support them in their vital role, and shows our appreciation for the incredible work they continue to do for vulnerable children and young people in their care.

“Providing a supportive and stable home to those in our care can provide our children and young people with an environment where they can flourish and give them the opportunity to reach their full potential and succeed in later life. Fostering is incredibly rewarding - it shows children the joy of a stable family life, while making lots of fun memories.

I urge anyone with an interest in becoming a foster carer to get in touch with Fostering RCT to find out more about opportunities available and whether fostering is right for you.”

The Council’s fostering service, Fostering RCT, also hope that this attractive new package will encourage more people to step forward and become foster carers for their Local Authority, and also welcome requests from foster carers who are currently working with other fostering agencies, about transferring to Fostering RCT.
