This is an unprecedented year, but Santa is still going to be bringing some festive cheer to the children of Rhondda Cynon Taf this Christmas.
The Council’s annual Santa Appeal is always a huge success, with thousands of new toys donated to ensure no child misses out at Christmas time. However, this year is going to be a very different festive season for us all.
Which is why we are asking our kind-hearted residents and businesses not to donate new toys to our Santa Appeal 2020, but to donate gift vouchers instead.
Santa Appeal 2020 Donation Lines will be open from November 10th to November 27th
Over the past few years, our local residents, businesses, charities and organisations have donated thousands of gifts to children who, otherwise, may not have had a gift to open on Christmas morning.
But thanks to the generosity of others, all of the children - identified by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council social workers have woken up on Christmas morning to at least one seasonal gift, each of which had been thoughtfully selected for their specific age.
Last year alone, more than 3,000 gifts were delivered thanks to the overwhelming generosity.
This year, however, due to Covid-19 restrictions, it is not possible to donate actual toys to the Santa Appeal 2020. This year we are asking you to donate a gift voucher that can be spent online or in a shop.

Supporting the Council’s Santa Appeal 2020 is simple – all you have to do is email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01443 425025 and tell Santa's helpers how many children you would like to donate a gift voucher to.
You will then be sent the name and age of a child. The name given will be an alias, to protect the identity of the child, but it will represent a real child in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
You have until Friday, November 27, to make that call or send that email and pledge a gift. Please note, lines will be open from 9.30am to 4.30pm, Tuesday to Friday.
Councillor Tina Leyshon, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: "We are living through very difficult times. A time of great heartache for many and times of great uncertainty.
“This Christmas more than ever we need to think of others, and our annual Santa Appeal is a fantastic way to bring a smile to the faces of children who might otherwise not have any presents this Christmas.
“I am delighted to be associated with the Council’s Santa Appeal once again this year and encourage as many individuals, charity groups, organisations and businesses as possible to get involved and help us once again to make it a huge success.
"This has become a popular and successful Christmas tradition in Rhondda Cynon Taf for many years and thousands of gifts have been delivered to countless children less fortunate than others over the years.
“This Christmas is going to be very different for us all, but help us to bring smiles to the faces of countless children on Christmas morning. Thanks to the overwhelming kindness and generosity of the people of Rhondda Cynon Taf, we really will be able to make a difference once again this Christmas – together we can do this!”
